Last Full Week!

Looking back, it is amazing how quickly the school year has flown by! This week marks our last full week of school. It certainly has become quite warm in the classrooms! Must be all of the brain sweat!

Students have completed their ELA, Math and Science M-STEP assessments! I know that they all tried their very best, and I am proud of the effort they put forth.

This week has been a lot of wrap up. In Math we have finished up our math units and are spending our time reviewing the skills that we learned this year and getting ready for 5th grade math.

In Reading Workshop students are continuing to work on honing their reading comprehension skills. We have been doing lessons from the book Notice and Note as well as incorporating Interactive Read Aloud lessons. Ask your child about our lesson on Words of the Wiser.

Students have been working on their ABCs of… books in Writing Workshop. Next week we will be saving our created books in to our Google Drive accounts so that students will be able to access them from home. Students will also have an opportunity to save photos and videos to drive as well. The access Google Drive with their student email account and email password. All students have this information glued in their BLACK folder which will come home the last week of school.

In Social Studies we are finishing up our Government Unit. We learned about the Constitution of the United States, how it came to be. We focused on the meaning of the Preamble and we will be exploring the Bill of Rights next week.

Please make sure to check the Important Dates below as the next two weeks are full of special events!

Friday the 13th!

We had a bit of an unconventional week this week. We started our M-STEP testing this week. Students took the Math M-STEP on Tuesday and on Thursday. I know that the students tried their best and I commend them for their patience while we struggled with getting everyone logged in correctly. Next week we will be taking the ELA and Science portions of the M-STEP.

The students also had the opportunity to perform with The West Michigan Symphony Orchestra at Frauenthal on Wednesday! I am so proud of how well behaved they were and with their singing and recorder performances. It sure was a lot of fun!

In between M-STEPing and concert performances we did get a little bit of academics in. On monday we did our final accounting for Market Day. Students also chose a charity to donate to. The choices were the West Michigan Chapter of Make-a-Wish and the Harbour Humane Society. The only stipulation was that each student donate a minimum of $1. I am astounded by how generous the students were! Holmes 4th grade was able to donate $237 dollars to each charity! Way to go 4th graders!

We also snuck out to practice some Bocce Ball with Ms. VandenBosch’s class on Thursday after our math M-STEP.

Please pay attention to the important dates coming up as it is the time of year where we have a lot happening really quickly!
